My Approach: Body-Mind Therapy Inspired by Jack Painter
In my practice, I see the body as an essential part of the therapeutic process. While talking is important, I’ve found that some experiences, emotions, and long-held patterns live beyond words. They show up in how we breathe, how we stand, and how we hold ourselves in the world.
My approach is deeply inspired by the work of Jack Painter, the founder of Postural Integration in California in the 1980s—a body-mind therapy that brings together physical awareness, emotional experience, and presence.
Listening to the Body
I don’t see tension or posture as something “wrong” with you. I see them as meaningful adaptations—ways your body learned to cope, protect, and survive. Often, these patterns were helpful at one time, even if they no longer serve you today.
Jack Painter beautifully expressed this when he said:
“The body is the unconscious made visible.”
In our work and therapeutic journey together, we take time to listen to what your body is communicating, without judgment or pressure to change.
What Sessions Are Like
Sessions are slow, attentive, and collaborative. Depending on what feels right for you, they may include:
Gentle or firm, mindful touch
Attention to breathing and natural movement
Space for emotions or memories to surface organically
Simple conversation to help integrate what you’re experiencing
There is no expectation to perform, explain, or relive anything before you’re ready. Your pace and sense of safety guide the process.
Why I Work This Way
Many people come to therapy understanding their challenges intellectually, yet still feeling stuck. I’ve learned that when we include the body, change can happen in a deeper and more lasting way.
This body-mind approach (Postural Integration) can support:
Releasing long-held tension
Feeling more grounded and embodied
Reconnecting with emotions safely
Developing clearer boundaries and self-support
A sense of wholeness and ease in everyday life
Postural Integration stands as a powerful reminder that healing is an embodied process.
An Invitation
My role is not to fix or push, but to accompany you as your system finds its own way toward balance and integration. Healing, in this sense, is less about effort and more about allowing space for what’s already there to unfold.
If you’re curious about a therapy that honors both your inner experience and your physical presence, I invite you to explore this work with me.
