Living Abroad, Feeling Alone: Why Expat Men Need Spaces to Connect
Moving to another country is often described as an exciting adventure. It can bring new opportunities, personal growth, and a broader perspective on the world.
Yet beneath the surface, expatriate life can also be deeply demanding.
Leaving behind familiar places, family, long-standing friendships and cultural reference points means rebuilding many aspects of life from the ground up. Even when surrounded by colleagues or new acquaintances, it is possible to feel unexpectedly alone.
For many men, this experience is rarely spoken about.
We often learn to adapt, stay busy and focus on solving problems. We become competent at navigating new environments, building careers and taking care of others. But there are fewer places where we can simply acknowledge uncertainty, vulnerability or the quiet sense of not quite belonging.
Living abroad can also raise deeper questions.
Who am I when I am no longer surrounded by the people who have known me for years? What parts of myself have I left behind? Which parts of me are emerging in this new life?
These are not signs of weakness. They are part of what it means to build a meaningful life between cultures.
This is why I believe that men benefit from spaces where they can slow down, listen to themselves and meet others without having to perform or justify who they are.
A men's circle is not about giving advice or fixing one another. It is a confidential space where different experiences can be shared with respect and curiosity.

My approach is informed by somatic psychotherapy, which means that conversation is only one part of the experience. Body awareness, emotions and the present moment are equally important. Often, what cannot yet be expressed in words can first be noticed through the body.
Whether you have recently arrived in Paris or have lived here for many years, you may recognize the need for a place where you can reconnect with yourself while building genuine relationships with other men.
I am currently exploring the launch of a small English-speaking men's circle in Paris for expatriates and international professionals.
Before joining the group, I offer a complimentary 20-minute phone conversation. It is an opportunity for us to discuss your expectations, answer your questions and make sure the group feels right for you.
If this resonates with you, I would be delighted to hear from you.
